George Clooney Villa Lake Como Italy

GEORGE CLOONEY in ITALY

GEORGE CLOONEY 'S ITALIAN VILLA

On LAKE COMO

ITALY

Set in the tranquil beauty of Italy’s Lake Como, screened by topiary and lush red geraniums, the Villa Oleandra nestles in paradise. The setting is so perfect that when Brad Pitt first saw it on a visit to Italy, he immediately thought of his close friend George Clooney, and urged him to take a look at it.
Clooney did more than look – he fell in love with the 18th Century villa with its old world charm and peaceful seclusion, and paid $7 million for it. As there was a lot of restoration work to be done, Clooney also bought the nearby Villa Margherita in 2005, which was immediately habitable. Lake Como is one of the jewels of northern Italy, a crystal clear, tranquil glacial lake surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and overlooked by tall snow capped mountain peaks. Just a half hour’s drive from Milan, Lake Como has long been a favorite spot for Europe’s rich and famous.
Designer Donatella Versace, who first invited Brad Pitt and his former wife Jennifer Aniston to the lake, lives near by. It is hardly surprising that Clooney fell in love with the area and the beautiful Villa Oleandra, but it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for him, even on the lake’s placid waters. Locals were outraged when they learned that he planned to privatize the beach that fronted his two homes, and Villa Margherita was vandalized, with graffiti scrawled on the walls and windows broken in protest at the star’s plans to make the 48 square meter public beach his own.
After some local councilors blasted the plan, a majority decision was reached to allow him to go ahead. The reason for the change of heart was Clooney’s assurance that the beach would not be closed off to locals, and that it would be improved under his stewardship. The beach in question was neglected and Clooney wrote 400 letters to his neighbors explaining his position.

“Let me maintain the beach and if that is done and you still want me as your honorary citizen I feel privileged to accept this honor,” he wrote.
Clooney also wrote letters of apology to his neighbors when filming of Ocean’s Twelve disrupted their peaceful hideaway. The residents reacted angrily when filming closed off streets in Laglio, the local town, and the lake was overrun with eager fans trying to catch a glimpse of Clooney and Brad Pitt.
“I am writing this letter to say thank you for accepting me into your community,” Clooney wrote. “I am sorry for the inconvenience that I have brought.”
In spite of that, residents are growing fond of him, and Laglio Mayor Guiseppe Mantero is a huge fan, calling Clooney has shown himself to be an “an honorable man”.
Having one of the world’s biggest Hollywood stars on your doorstep does create problems, especially when the paparazzi are swarming all over the place to get shots of the star in residence, but it has positive benefits too. Local traders like the fresh interest in Lake Como that Clooney has stirred, and the resulting improvement in business. Clooney’s legendary kindness has shown itself in many ways, among them a donation ten specially equipped scooters to Rome’s Emergency Services Unit.
Laglio locals are getting used to the quiet, self effacing star in their midst, and report that he is often to be found helping grandmothers with their shopping, or shooting basketball with the local youngsters.
Described as “good and kind” and “a good person”, Clooney has shown himself determined to be accepted into his new community. He is learning to speak Italian from language CDs, which he laughingly says will “take an eternity!”
But his desire to be able to communicate with his neighbors is stronger than his struggle with the language. “It’s embarrassing to live in a country where you don’t know the language.”
For some time, George Clooney’s love for Italy has had an added charm: Elisabetta Canalis. The People magazine reported on September 8, 2009:
Clooney, 48, and the woman better known to local media as “La Canalis” or simply “Eli” have been inseparable the past three weeks, spending much of their time at his lakeside village in Como. Most of their meals are taken at home, with Clooney’s cook firing up homemade pizzas in a wood-fire oven and much of their free time spent lounging by the pool in his secluded garden or on Clooney’s boat.

George Clooney may be selling his beloved Italian Villa for 100 Million Dollars ..
George Clooney purchased his villa on Lake Como from the Heinz Family in 2002 for
10 Million dollars. Sources say, Clooney has been offered $100,000,00 for the property.

alla POPE of GREENWICH VILLAGE

BURT YOUNG'S SUNDAY SAUCE GRAVY RECIPE : INGREDIENTS : 1 pound Pork Neck, removed from bone and cut into 1" chunks Italian Sweet Sausages 12 Pork Spare Ribs 1/4 cup Italian Olive Oil 1 pinch Pepperoncino (Red Pepper Flakes) 1 medium Onion, peeled and dice fine 1 pound Pork Neck, removed from bone and cut into 1" chunks Italian Sweet Sausages 12 Pork Spare Ribs 6 Chicken Thighs 2 - 28 ounce can of San Marzano Whole Tomatoes (drained in strainer, reserving liquid. 2 - 28 ounce cans of Italian Tomato Passata half can of Tomato Paste 16 fresh Basil leaves, washed and torn into pieces with your fingers (don't use a knife) 2 Bay Leaves Place the olive oil in a large pot and turn heat on to medium. Add the pork ribs and half the pork neck and cook until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Remove and set aside.  Brown remaining pork neck and the Chicken Thighs. When finished browning set aside with the ribs. Add the Sausage and brown over low medium heat until slightly browned (about 8 minutes). Remove sausages from pot, and let rest with the ribs. Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook on low heat for 4 minutes. Add 4 cloves of chopped garlic and let cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to let the garlic burn. Chop the whole San Marzano tomatoes and add to pot with onions. Cook on high heat for 3 minutes. Add the Tomato Passata and cook on high heat for 4 minutes. Add the reserved juices from the San Marzano Tomatoes, the basil and Bay Leaves to the pot. Add 1 teaspoon each of Salt & Black Pepper and 1 cup of water and stir. Add all the browned meats and cook on low heat for 90 minutes as you stir this with a wooden spoon ever now and then to keep the sauce from sticking or burning. After all the meats are in th pot with the browned meats, begin to make your meatballs. For MEATBALLS : Mix the following ingredients in a large glass bowl. Form into 2" round Meatballs and fry until lightly browned in vegetable oil. 2 pound fresh Ground Beef, 1/4 cup bread crumbs and 1/4 cup Milk 1/4 cup fresh Italian Parsley, washed, dried and chopped 1/4 teaspoon each of Salt & Black Pepper .. 2 cloves Garlic, minced fine 2 large Eggs, cracked and beaten with a fork After the sauce (Gravy) has been simmering for 90 minutes, add the brown Meatballs to the pot with the fresh Basil Leaves, and let simmer on low hear for 35 minutes. Turn heat off and let the Sauce sit for 15 minutes.  To serve your Sunday Sauce, cook some short maccheroni according to directions on package. Burt likes to use Rigatoni. Once the maccerhoni (pasta) is cooked, drain the pasta, reserving a little of the pasta water. Add the Riagatoni (pasta) back to the pot it cooked in. Add some of the Tomato Sauce to the pasta and mix. Add a little sprinkle of Olive Oil and a little bit of the reserved pasta water. Place some of the sauce Maccheroni on each persons plate, add a little more tomato sauce over the pasta, and place 1 or 2 Meatballs, one Pork Rib, and 1 Sausage on each persons plate. Serve , and place some grayed Parmigiano Cheese in the middle of the table Enjoy!

ITALIAN CIOCCALATA CALDA

Italian Hot Chocolate

ITALIAN CIOCCOLATA CALDA
1 ½ cups  whole milk (or part heavy cream for extra super decadence)
2 Tbsp Sugar
3.5 oz  good quality dark chocolate, 70% or higher, broken into pieces
2 tsp cornstarch (cornflour, maizena)
Take about 4 Tablespoons of the milk and set it aside. In a medium saucepan, over low heat, slowly heat the rest of the milk and the sugar.
When the sugar is dissolved and the milk is hot, but not boiling, add the chopped chocolate and stir until it is melted.
Mix the cornstarch with the reserved milk and add it to the chocolate mixture in the pan. Stir until the mixture thickens.
Pour into mugs or cups and serve immediately.
This makes 2 large or 4 small servings.
You can serve whipped cream (the real deal!) on the side or on top for added decadence. Also nice is a sprinkling of cinnamon.
This is a basic recipe and from here you can get creative by adding some coffee liqueur, or any other liqueur, some vanilla flavoring, etc
I’ve seen cioccolata calda served in very small cups, and even thicker than this recipe, but I’ve not tasted or tried that version.

The POPE of GREENWICH VILLAGE starring Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts

with Daryl Hannah, Burt Young, and Geraldine Paige

Screenplay by Vincent Patrick

In an Italian neighborhood of Greenwich Village, cousins Charlie (Rourke), a Maître d' with aspirations of someday owning his own restaurant, and Paulie (Roberts), a schemer who works as a waiter, have expensive tastes but not much money. Paulie gets caught skimming checks, and he and Charlie are both fired. Now out of work and in debt, Charlie must find another way to pay his alimony, support his pregnant girlfriend Diane (Hannah), and try to buy a restaurant.
Paulie comes to Charlie with a "can't-miss" robbery, involving a large amount of cash in the safe of a local business. Charlie reluctantly agrees to participate, and they manage to crack the safe with help from an accomplice, Barney (McMillan), a clock repairman and locksmith. But things go sour, resulting in the accidental death of police officer Walter "Bunky" Ritter, who had been secretly taping "Bed Bug" Eddie Grant (Young). Charlie soon learns that the money they stole belongs to Eddie.
The mob figures out that Paulie is involved, and not even his Uncle Pete, part of Eddie's crew, can help him. Eddie's henchmen cut off Paulie's left thumb as punishment.
Diane leaves Charlie and takes his money to support their unborn child, while Paulie is forced to work as a waiter for Eddie. He gives the mob Barney's name but initially refuses to identify Charlie as the third man involved. However, under pressure, he is forced to rat on his cousin. Barney leaves town and Charlie mails him his cut of the loot. And when Charlie makes $20,000 on a horse, things begin to look up.
Charlie prepares for a showdown with Eddie, armed with a copy of the tape that the police officer made. But at the last moment, Paulie puts lye in Eddie's coffee. Then he and Charlie casually walk away from Greenwich Village.
