Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them.
Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, NY, preparing for and shooting the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner, and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.
Written with nostalgia and Stanley's signature wry humor, Taste is for readers of Bill Buford, Gabrielle Hamilton, and Ruth Reichl--and anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.
Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts are coming out of Joe's Dairy in Greenwich Village
New York. In the movie The Pope of Greenwich Village this little Italian Cheese Store that
specializes in fresh homemade Mozzarella which is along with fresh made Italian Sausages precious commodities in the Italian-American Enclave. This real life Italian Cheese Shop was fictionalized as
Jimmy The Cheeseman's Shop in the Pope of Greenwich Village which starred Mickey Rourke as Charlie Morant, and Eric Roberts as his cousin Paulie. Here we find Charlie and Paulie going into the cheese shop so Paulie can buy some fresh Mozzarella, Salami, and Prosciutto to make an Italian Sandwich. They then go next door to the real life Zampiere's Bakery which operated two shops in Greenwich Village for years, providing the local Italians with fresh baked Italian Bread and Pastries. Sadly these two wonderful establishments no longer exist, but thanks to this wonderful movie based on the book Pope of Greenwich Village by Vincent Patrick who does a great job capturing some real Greenwich Village Village character.

Frank Sinatra loved Chicago. He performed there more than any other city in America, including Las Vegas. Frank had his favorite hangouts, and places to eat in Chicago. He ate many times at Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern, and he loved the Barbecued Ribs.
One visit to the Twin Anchors in the 1970s was described like this. “Frank Sinatra entertained a large group of friends at The Twin Anchors last night. The guestlist included ; Jilly Rizzo, football great Sid Luckman, Frank’s girlfriend Barbara Marx, comedian Pat Henry, composer Don Costas, Joey Bishop, and agent Mickey Houston. Frank’s order was Ribs, and keep them coming, he said. One of Mr. Sinatra’s bodyguards was positioned by the pay phone, preventing patrons from making calls that would cause a mob scene. Mr. Sinatra was very gracious about signing autographs, and was extremely generous with tipping everyone working his table, giving them $100 each.”

Giuseppina Salemi Bellino was born in Lercara Friddi, Sicily, the same town that Frank Sinatra's father Martino Severino Sinatra was born. The recipes in her cookbook Grandma Bellino's Cookbook are from Lercara Friddi and other parts of the island of Sicily (Sicilian Food). Frank Sinatra's wife Barbara Sinatra came out with a cookbook, called The SINATRA CELEBRITY COOKBOOK by Barbara Sinatra & Frank Sinatra. Sadly the book is awful and barely has anything to do with Italian Food. It's quite surprising that such a horrible cookbook was published in the name of Frank Sinatra, but it was. Whoever put this book together for the Sinatra's should be put in Jail ! "For Life," the book is absolutely Horrible, as most agree. Anyway, you have an alternative.
